Our Story & Legacy
Brigadoon began its journey as the Waugh General Store and post office, built around 1852–1853 using thick, locally quarried limestone. Cheryl Mackie, an immigrant from England, and her family lovingly restored the historic space, converting it into a distinctive dining venue that honors its past while offering contemporary comforts. Over three decades later, Brigadoon remains under family stewardship, recognized for its warm service and commitment to culinary craftsmanship—earning accolades like the Leeds Grenville Small Business Centre’s Lifetime Achievement Award.
Dining with Distinction
Today, Brigadoon blends classical British and French-inspired dishes—like French onion soup, starchéd prime rib, escargot, and afternoon tea—with locally sourced ingredients and seasonal variations. Guests enjoy an elegant atmosphere enhanced by soft lighting, antique décor, cozy fireplaces, and an inviting garden patio . Whether celebrating a special occasion or enjoying a quiet meal, visitors consistently praise its ambiance as “romantic,” a “hidden gem,” and ideal for memorable gatherings.
Community at Heart
Brigadoon is more than just a restaurant—it’s a pillar of the community. Generations of guests have returned for themed evenings, Sunday roasts, private events, and seasonal celebrations like high tea. The Mackie family’s local involvement and charitable support have cemented Brigadoon’s reputation as both a culinary and community cornerstone in Oxford Mills.
